Biography: Dr. Dian Longyang is a professor at the State Key Laboratory of Microbial Technology (Research Institute) of Shandong University, a doctoral candidate and a master's tutor. Shandong Province Taishan Scholar Young Expert, Shandong University Qilu Young Scholar first-level talent. Permanent member of the Chinese Society of Microbiology, senior member of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Society, and member of the Chinese Chemical Society. He is an evaluation expert for key special projects of the National Key R&D Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and an expert for professional title evaluation of the Scientific Research Development Center of Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education. He once served as a senior researcher at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, a research assistant with the European Commission Fund, and a postdoctoral research assistant at the University of Manchester in the UK. Currently, he is in charge of projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Shandong Province Taishan Scholars Project, Shandong Province Overseas Outstanding Youth Fund, Shandong Province Natural Science Foundation, Jiangsu Province Natural Science Foundation, and Shandong University Qilu Young Scholars First-Level Talent Fund. Focusing on microbial active substances and high value-added chemical products, we use organic synthetic chemistry and synthetic biology to carry out research on their corresponding efficient synthesis, transformation and biological activity. Published many high-level academic research results in Chem. Rev., Angew Chem, ACS Catal. and other magazines.
Topic: Degradation of Plastic and Lignin via Chemo and Bio-Process
Abstract: Polyolefin plastics, such as polyethylene (PE) and polystyrene (PS), are the most widely used synthetic plastics in our daily life. However, the chemical structure of polyolefin plastics is composed of carbon-carbon (C-C) bonds, which is extremely stable and makes polyolefin plastics recalcitrant to degradation. The growing accumulation of plastic waste has caused serious environmental pollution and has become a global environmental concern. In this study, we isolated a unique Raoultella sp. DY2415 strain from petroleum-contaminated soil that can degrade PE and PS film via the high-throughput screening (HTS). Nevertheless, the cooperative interaction of the chemo and bioprocess could achieve the value-addition of these artificial polymers.
